Obtaining Free Credit Repair
Although some entities or individuals advertise free credit repair services, their offering is often more complex than it appears. Usually, no one will willingly repair your credit without getting something in return. About 15 years ago, when I first started in the credit repair industry, I sought ways to get my name out and prove my services. Thus, I offered my services for free to some clients. However, I looked forward to having testimonials or reviews from such clients, meaning the clients needed to give feedback. My company, ASAP Credit Repair, offers free credit repair today, but only within one round of service. Nonetheless, clients must enroll and pay service fees to be eligible for free credit repair. All in all, "free" credit repair still comes with a cost.
Although you can repair your credit without spending, doing so takes significant time, which you may have to allocate. It is, therefore, recommended that you disprove your credit reports for free, but you may need to put aside 1-2 hours per month for 3-5 months to complete the process. If you don't have the time to repair your credit on your own, then hiring a credit repair service provider or company for $400-600 on average for all the repair work is advisable.
How to Fix Your Credit by Yourself for Free
Repairing your credit on your own is a doable task, although it may take some time. Remember to avoid disputing your credit reports online, as doing so relinquishes your legal right to dispute your credit report more than once a year. Moreover, the dispute process is generic and archaic, rendering it ineffective. Experts suggest the credit repair process is 70% research and credit report review and 30% drafting up credit disputes.
Here is a summary of the process for fixing your credit for free.
1. Get online access to your credit reports and use a provider such as IdentityIQ that provides the most available data.
2. Understand what disputing entails. You must familiarize yourself with two important laws protecting you as a consumer: the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) and the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA).
3.Draft your dispute letter, ignoring advice from alleged online experts. Do it on paper or via Google Docs. Get the Credit Reporting Agencies' addresses and write your name, address, date of birth, and the last four digits of your social security number. Identify the account on the letter and request the validated account's proof, including the Credit Application, the ledger balance history, and all the monthly billing statements provided since the account's opening date. Then sign and conclude the letter.
4. Wait for 30 days. If you do not receive the requested proof for each disputed account, send a secondary dispute letter via certified mail.
5.Repeat the last step until you get the resolution you desire. If you are stuck, reach out to reputable credit repair firms. Remember to keep your disputes simple. Look for dispute template letters on Google only for reference purposes; do not copy them, as they do not guarantee that you will succeed.
Using Free Credit Repair Software: Is it Possible?
As a credit repair newbie, my quest for an efficient tool to create dispute letters began immediately. Eventually, I discovered the Credit Repair Cloud software, which has since continuously evolved to help clients fix their credit. Surprisingly, individuals can also leverage this software with the offer of a 30-day free trial to generate their first dispute letter. This amazing secondary option provides a step-by-step credit repair process and incredible information on credit repair. Credit Repair Cloud also provides an array of dispute letters and tactics and different dispute reasons tailored to specific accounts. Notably, the free trial only allows access to their first round dispute letters, requiring the manual creation of future round letters or a software upgrade to complete the entire credit repair process. Explore the market for other credit repair software options; approximately ten are available. Once you master the process, turn it into a credit repair business and help others improve their credit.
Obtaining Your Free Credit Report for Credit Repair
One crucial step to repair your credit for free is to obtain copies of your credit reports from all three major credit reporting agencies - Equifax, Experian, and Transunion. While it's advisable to eventually dispute any discrepancies with all available credit reporting agencies and data furnishers, starting with a simple approach is recommended. Accessing your credit reports not only enables you to identify which derogatory accounts require attention but also raises the question of which credit report to use.
The short answer is yes. There is a preference. There are various types of credit reports, and not all of them are equally effective. Generally, lenders who grant loan approvals prefer the Fair Isaac Corporation (FICO) report.
However, accessing this report can be expensive, and it is better to wait until the end of your credit repair process before obtaining it. The best choice at the outset would be the Vantage score report, which is less costly and provides the same data as a FICO report.
When deciding which credit report would be most effective, we recommend IdentityIQ, which, in our opinion, provides the best credit reports among all credit monitoring sites. Although the data feed that provides this information is similar to other Vantage Scoring Reports, IdentityIQ provides more data, allowing for more comprehensive error identification. Our clients have experienced higher results with IdentityIQ reports than with other traditional sites. That being said, it's not mandatory to use IdentityIQ as long as you access all three credit reports from a reputable credit monitoring site.
How Credit Repair Can Boost Your Credit Score
Credit repair has proven to be a powerful tool for enhancing credit scores. However, it is essential to note that credit repair alone cannot entirely improve your credit score. Establishing and maintaining a strong payment history is critical to elevating your credit score. Most of us assume that credit repair eliminates credit issues permanently, but that's not always the case, especially when an account has no discrepancies or reporting errors.
So, how can credit repair help improve your credit score?
1.Removing negative payments or adverse accounts is one of the most effective ways to improve your credit score.
2. Nonetheless, positive revolving and installment account reports should exist for credit scores to improve significantly.
3. To maintain excellent credit, maintaining a good payment record for active accounts is paramount.
4. For those with insufficient credit, it is advisable, to begin with a secured credit card, which can help build credit quickly.
In conclusion, credit repair is a robust tool for enhancing credit score ratings. Still, ensuring a positive payment history is essential, keeping credit card balances close to zero dollars and maintaining an established credit rating.
